Glasgow school parents call for longer Christmas break holidays

Calls have been made to add extra holiday time for pupils at Christmas next year. Education bosses at the council have released possible dates for school holidays from 2024 to 2026 in Glasgow.

Parents are being asked for their opinions on the suggested school closure days – and many appear to feel their kids don’t get enough time off at Christmas. A number of mums have voiced their opinions on Glasgow City Council’s social media pages calling for more time off for children during winter and fewer holidays in the summer.

One commented : “Add two weeks onto the winter holidays and take them off the summer.” Another added:” Take a couple of weeks off summer hols and add them to Christmas holidays.” A third pointed out: “An extra week holiday in October swapped for a week less over Summer would be good.”

The council consultation said: “The current pattern of school term dates, holidays and in service days is set until July 2024. Glasgow City Council has developed a draft calendar for the following two years and wants to hear the views of parents, carers, pupils, staff and the wider public before the dates are finalised.”
