First home match of the year saw the Allander Cyan men’s squash team playing Newlands 5, who are lying mid-table in the Macbean Technology Division 4.
A win would the Allander on a level pegging with the stronger Newlands 6 at the top of the league.
First on was Phil Graves at number 3, looking even dozier than usual.
After a good battering in the first game he duly woke up, discovered his usual form and went on to the win the next 3 games without too much incident, making it 3:1 to the Allander.
Meanwhile Jeremy Bushell at number 4 made light work of his opponent and soon completed a straightforward 3:0 victory.
At number 5 Ken Findlay, playing in his first match for a few weeks, never found his usual delicate touch.
Nursing a sore elbow he struggled to gain any power, but did well to win a game after being 2:0 down.
The recovery proved illusory and he was convincingly beaten in the fourth to lose 3:1 overall.
Any chance of an Allander stumble was quickly alleviated by a ruthless display by Stuart Harvey at number 2.
The Newlands lady, still only a teenager, was given little chance and was dispatched in three straight games - 3:0 to the Allander and giving the Allander overall victory on the night.
So Chris McGeady playing at one had only pride and some extra points to worry about.
He took time to settle and losing the first game forced a more attacking performance.
The second game ultimately decided the match.
Each had game points in a thrilling contest with the score pushing through 15 and Chris finally getting the necessary 2 point lead to win the game 19:17.
The next two games were less frantic and Chris went on to win 3:1 and gain yet another man of the match award.
This gave a 4-1 win for the home side, and 16-5 in points.
