Scott is top Harrier in Pollok Park


SCOTT McPHERSON was the first Garscube Harrier to cross the line in the Glasgow Parkrun 5k at Pollok Country Park on Saturday.

The athlete completed the race in 20mins 1sec finishing 81st out of the 330 that took park.

Other club runners who completed the race were: Alasdair Mackay (22:48) 98th, Bryan Donaldson (23:33) 109th, Peter Dow (24:09) 224th, Caroline Dow (28:29) 229th, Karen Donaldson (28:40) 300th, Joan Morris (33:48) with a race pb in 319th, Lindsay Robertson (36:49) and 320th Catriona Robertson (36:50).

On the same day Andy Griffiths finished 34th out of 139 runners in the Strathclyde Parkrun 5k race in 21mins 13secs.

The previous Monday Joe Mc-Knight was third in the Irvine Athletic Club’s 5 Miles Road Race. Joe’s time was 26min 53secs.

Other runners were Bobby Rossborough who finished in 32nd place in 32:31 and Ali Winship, who was first female over 35 in 35th place in 32mins 45secs.

Meanwhile two Garscube members travelled to Nethybridge to compete in the Nethy Explorer 12k Multi Terrain Race on Sunday July 17.

Dermot Williamson finished 34th in 1hr 16secs and Paula Williamson was 75th in 1:17:16.

Over east Kath Scott was the second lady to complete the Dundee Half Marathon from Camperdown Park, Dundee to Broughty Ferry in 1hr 33mins 9secs to win the ladies V45 prize. 

Younger club members also made their presence felt when Alastair Stanley - running for Scotland, finished fourth in a pb of 4mins, 34.94secs in the 1,500 metre steeplechase race at the Aviva Schools International Athletic Board U17 Track and Field International Match at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium on Saturday July 16.

Also that weekend, some Garscube Harriers members were up and about and in action in various Parkrun 5ks.

In the Glasgow run at Pollok Country Park Bryan Donaldson was first club member to finish in 76th place in 23mins 22secs followed by: 126th Kirsty Donaldson - 26:02 (race PB), 160th Karen Donaldson - 27:28, 171st Lorna Robertson - 28:11 (race PB) and 236th Joan Morris - 34:47 (race PB). 252 finished.

In the inaugural Falkirk Parkrun at Callendar Park which attracted a field of 146 competitors, Peter Dow finished 69th place in 25mins 56secs and Caroline Dow came in 110th in 30mins 29secs.

Finally Calum Esler finished in 8th place in 3mins 3.93secs in the 800m at the National U14 Championships at Scotstoun Stadium on July 16 and on Wednesday July 13 Adam Taylor finished in 6th place in 56mins 3secs in the Maddy Moss Hill Race over 10k with a 760m race Tillicoultry Glen.
