President of Garscube Harriers wins Volunteer of the year Award.

Garscube Harriers president Andy Griffiths won Volunteer of the year Award.

He was presented with the award at a Civic Reception in Glasgow City Chambers for Glasgow Sportsperson of the Year Awards on February 28.

The accolade was in recognition of the tireless dedication and effort Andy (62) has put into the club and surrounding schools during his presidency.

Garscube are the first and only club in Scotland to be awarded the prestigious Podium Award from Scottish Athletics.

Tony Hall from the club said: “This is down to Andy’s guidance and the dogged determination of the Committee and club members, who worked towards this goal.

“The Club has increased its overall membership during this period and has become more active in delivering athletics to schools which will hopefully bode well for the future of athletics.”

Meanwhile back on the track. In the National Masters Championships at the Emirates Area, Glasgow on Sunday, Stevie Cullen finished in fourth position in the 800m and Rob McLennan finished third in the 1500m. This was a great results for both men, as they were competing against some of the best in Britain.
