Partick Thistle suffer pre-season defeat

A week of intense training did not help Partick Thistle when they went down 2-1 to Gateshead in their first public pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Jags’ boss Alan Arcibald fielded several new trialist at New Ferens Park, Durham and admitted the squad struggled at times because of the different positions they were playing in.

The Jags were behind inside the opening minute before a long range effort from Gatehead doubled their lead.

The First Division Champions managed to claw a goal back in the second half with new striker John Baird find the net. But all in all it was a disappointing outing for the Firhill side.
