Thistle claimed their place in the second round of the League Cup competition despite a late scare against Ayr United.
The Jags beat Ayr 2-1 at Firhill on Tuesday night, but there were a few nervous moments at the end.
Gaffer Alan Archibald said the main thing was that they had gone through, adding: “We’ve had some slip-ups in cup competitions in the past so it was important to get the win and into the draw for the next round of the League Cup.
“I thought the guys acquitted themselves well. We changed the side a bit and that was no disrespect to Ayr.
“There were, however, some nervy moment towards the end when Ayr pulled one back before hitting the post in the 90th minute.”
It took Thistle just 12 minutes to net their first. Christie Elliott fed Stephen O’Donnell, who fired into the top corner.
It looked all over with just eight minutes left when Conrad Balatoni glanced a Steven Lawless shot into the top corner.
But Ayr hit back. New sub Mark Shankland beat Thistle goalie Scott Fox to head into an empty net, before hitting the post in the dying seconds.
Focus now turns to the SPFL match against Ross County on Saturday. Kris Doolan and Aaron Muirhead received knocks against Ayr, but should be ok to travel to Victoria Park, Dingwall.
