West of Scotland Rugby Club continued their preparations for the new season by taking part in a three-team competition at Falkirk on Saturday.

In a change of plan, instead of using both pitches for Falkirk matches, it was decided to play a round-robin tournament involving Falkirk, Ayr and West in a series of matches of 40 minutes’ duration.

In the first tie, with a mixture of both first and second XV players, Falkirk took on West of Scotland and the Glasgow side dominated the first 20 minute spell and led at the break by 7-0,through a try and conversion from Matt Davis.

However Falkirk responded strongly in the second period with tries from Andrew Hamilton,Thomas Kalin and Gary Dempsey and a conversion from Ewan Edmonds to emerge victors by 17-7.

The second encounter involved Ayr against West and, in a very keenly contested match, Ayr just won narrowly by 15-10.

Ayr then faced Falkirk in the final round and the two division gap between the sides was obvious as they crushed the hosts 38-7.

West will get their BT National League Division 3 campaign underway on Saturday, August 29, with a relatively short trip to face East Kilbride.

The Milngavie side finished third in last season’s table while East Kilbride ended up in sixth place.

West play their first home league fixture of the campaign the following Saturday against Royal High Corstorphine.
