Milngavie’s Imogen Bankier and Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva are through to the second round of the women’s doubles at the Yonex French Open in Paris.

Bankier claimed Scotland’s first victory at Stade Coubertin today when she and Nedelcheva edged past England’s Lauren Smith and Gabby White.

Nedelcheva and Bankier won 21-18 22-20 after saving two game points in the second at 20-18 down.

They had dominated the opening game after moving steadily clear from 8-8.

In the last 16 they will face top seeds Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli of China.

But first Bankier and Robert Blair are in mixed doubles action against India’s Tarun Kona and Ashwini Ponnappa.
