Bearsden teenager Aidan McHugh is through to the last 16 of the junior singles at the Australian Open after a nailbiting tiebreak decider.
The 17-year-old defeated France’s Jaimee Floyd Angele 6-2 3-6 7-6 in searing heat in Melbourne to book a third round encounter with number 14 seed Ondrej Styler of the Czech Republic.
Aidan, who beat Romanian Filip Jianu in straight sets in his opening round, began well by taking the opening set thanks to two breaks of serve.
But the tall French player hit back to take the second with a single break and force a decider.
The third set went all the way. McHugh had three break points and Angele had two, but neither player could convert and the match went to a tiebreak which Aidan won 7-5.
