Allander 1st 4
Strathgryffe 3rds 1
The opposition cruised in from Houston with expectations of a tough contest and Allander were happy to take up the challenge.
With the opposition losing a couple of key players to higher teams, it was almost a clean sweep by the homeside. Chris McGeady at 1, Scott Hay at 2, Ian Turnbull at 3 and Gregory Dudziak at 5 all won in straight sets, 3-0 apiece. Both Ian and Gregory did well to maintain a clean sheet against determined opponents. Allander’s number 4 was held up at rehearsals with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, so the team captain, enjoying a night off was pressed into action. He never really warmed up against an opponent more cunning than him losing 3-0 to an opponent who displayed fine drop shots. This victory leaves the team placed just in the top half of division 3.
Meanwhile Allander mens 2nd team were away to Wanderers 2nd and it was a frustrating night going down 3-2. Hamish McKay at 5 started the night well with a 3-1 win. Kevin Reilly at 4 then lost 3-0 in a tight contest. At the same time, Sajj Chauhdry at 3 was on his way to a 3-1 defeat. Donny Kneale had to win at 2 to preserve the prospect of an overall win. He duly delivered by winning 3-2.
It was then up to Ken Findlay in the top spot to decide the night’s outcome. In a close game Ken had five match points in the deciding game, but unhappily he lost 3-2 as did the team. The team remains second top in the division.
