Children taking part in Strathendrick’s mini rugby sessions held their first coaching session of the new season at Fintry recently followed by a family barbecue.

The highlight was the presentation of cheques to three local hospice charities – the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, Strathcarron Hospice in Denny and CHAS (which runs the children’s hospice in Balloch), each of which received £675.

The funds were raised at Strathendrick’s Charity Rugby Festival last April with teams from Glasgow, Stirlingshire and Lanarkshire competing.

In the five years since this Festival began, over £20,000 has been raised for the three charities and it has been hugely appreciated that the children are giving something back to their communities.

The 2012 festival is already planned for April 29 with 16 clubs expected to attend as well as a possible visit from a touring club from Ireland.

Strathendrick Minis meet every Sunday and the sessions are open to any child from p1-p7 who is keen to give rugby a go.

No previous experience is required just lots of enthusiasm.
