BEARSDEN lad Michael Kerr received news earlier this month that he had been selected as an ‘all American’ after he was invited to the Annual Offense-Defense Youth Bowl in Dallas, Texas.
Michael is 12 years old and a former pupil of St Andrew’s Primary.
He emigrated to the US five years ago with his family and took up American Football by chance after confusing ‘football’ with ‘soccer’.
Despite some early challenges Michael soon got the hang of the game and went on to star for his school team winning the city championship in 2010.
Michael plays linebacker for his school St Mary Academy in Louisville, Kentucky and will join his peers from across America on Boxing Day for five days intensive training at the University of Texas, Arlington.
He was selected from thousands of football players and it is a great honour to represent his school and state.
The culmination of the camp is the nationally-televised, American Football Bowl game which will take place in the 80,000 seat Cowboys Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
BOWLING THEM OVER . . . former St Andrew’s Primary pupil Michael Kerr.
