Marathon man Alan first home

The Garscube Harrier was first home in last weekend’s inaugural race which started at Newton train station and followed the Glasgow parklands along the Clyde walkway, Kelvin walkway and Forth & Clyde canal footpaths to finish in Dumbarton.

Alan clocked 2:46:50 while hot on his heels was Garscube team-mate Gary Matthew in 2:48.08 to make it a one-two for the club on the podium.

Alan said: ““I was surprised and delighted to take the win, as there was some very good runners competing. It’s good to see a marathon back in Glasgow, hopefully it will be back next year bigger and better.

“I’m using it as part of my build up to the Frankfurt Marathon in the autumn and it’s worked really well and been a great confidence booster.”

Russell Whittingham of Bellahouston Road Runners completed the podium in 2:51:10. Other Garscube Harriers were Craig Shields (2:58:59), Alex Chalmers (3:00:21) and Simon Sheridan (3:14:42)

The ladies races was by Angela Reid of North Ayrshire Athletic Club in 3:26:2, followed by Zorana Tasovac of Edinburgh Running Network 3:28:50 then Laura Mooney (unattached) in 3:30:50.
