The 20-year-old-old, originally from Bearsden before moving to Lenzie, defeated Liechtenstein's Kathina von Deichmann, world ranked 189, in straight sets, winning 6-2 6-3.

Maia, world ranked 524, now faces Italy's Camilla Rossatello in the last eight of the GB Pro Series event at Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

Her win over von Deichmann, seeded six for the event, followed a 7-6 6-4 victory over England's Jodie Anna Burrage in the first round.

However there was disappointment for Maia's younger brother Ewen who went out in the first round of the men's singles.

The 17-year-old went down 6-4 7-6 to Colombia's Juan Sebastian Gomez.

And fellow Scot Aidan McHugh, fresh from his exploits at the Australian Open where he reached the Junior Singles semi-finals, also found the step up to the senior ranks tough.

McHugh (17) went down 7-6 6-2 to 30-year-old Belgian Yannick Mertens, the number three seed.
