THE first event of the five SSGS Winter Order of Merit was held at Stirling last Friday with a stiff breeze making scoring difficult.
Stirling was heavy underfoot due to heavy overnight rain and the club staff must be complimented as the greens were in excellent condition and the course played well.
Two local players Drew Wilson (Clober) and Ian Jeen (Milngavie) shared the lead on 38 points with Jalil Aman (Grangemouth).
Four players narrowly missed out as they carded just one point behind the leaders. With 37 points were Keith Ross (Beith), Andrew Brodie (Glasgow), Wilson Butler (Carluke) and Tom Allan (Dunblane) who claimed the best back nine score of 21.
Keith Ross and Stuart Black also scored excellent 21s on the front nine.
This is the first counting event and Ian Jeen has started well in the defence of the Order of Merit he won last year.
The season now closes with all looking forward to the next event at the Glen (North Berwick) on Friday, March 9.
