BADMINTON star Imogen Bankier and her doubles partner Chris Adcock won an incredible battle of the Brits at the Swiss Open in Basel on Thursday.
Imogen and Chris had to save three match points before beating GB Olympic rivals Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork.
The duo took the 68-minute contest 19-21 21-11 25-23 on their second match point.
Both pairs went into the match boosted by a rise in the world rankings after their successes last week in reaching the quarter-finals at the Yonex All England Open Championships.
Imogen, from Milngavie and Chris from England moved up three places, to number 14, while Nathan and Jenny went up two places to number 17 in the world rankings.
Had the two pair both won their quarter-finals last week, they would have met in the semi-finals. Instead, Thursday’s clash was their second meeting with Nathan and Jenny having come out on top in a three-game contest at the Malaysian Open in January.
There is now a real chance for Imogen and Chris to consolidate the ranking points advantage over their Olympic rivals after this result.
In the quarter-finals Imogen and Chris will face either sixth seeds Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul of Thailand or Japan’s Kenichi Hayakawa and Misaki Matsutomo.
