Hockey game to honour 40 years of service from Milngavie players

Western Wildcats Hockey Club is holding a special hockey match to honour two long term members who have each been at the Auchenhowie based club in Milngavie for 40 year.

On Saturday (May 31) Alistair Trainor and Niall Sturrock will captain a star-studded invitation game.

More than 50 players ranging from teenagers to septuagenarians are expected to play in a match that will feature 27 internationalists in a who’s who of Western’s last half-century.

The game will have four 20 minute rounds and is sponsored and supported by Friends of Western.

Hospitality is being provided for the players and it is envisaged that this will be an all-day affair, segueing nicely into the club awards dinner at the club later that evening.

Niall said: “What I think this really demonstrates is how hockey embraces all ages and abilities and finds a place for everyone, be they internationalists in their prime, promising youngsters or just club players of any age and level who love the sport.”
