Catriona (17) also received the additional honour of being named co-captain of the squad.

The pair’s selection has delighted Wildcats Ladies first team coach Kareena Marshall.

She said: “I am very proud of the girls and this is testament to both the hard work they have put in and the great potential we have in the junior section of the club.

“They are an inspiration to our other juniors who hope to play for their country and we wish them all the best”.

The girls have been involved in a series of training camps and warm up games in preparation for the tournament where they will face their counterparts from the Czech Republic, Italy and Austria.

Iona (18), a former Douglas Academy pupil, said: “We are both very proud and honoured to have been given the opportunity to represent our country and are very much looking forward to playing in the European Championships in front of a home crowd”.
