Highland fling is the thing for Clydesdale Harriers’ runners

Five Clydesdale Harriers’ athletes took part in the gruelling HOKA Highland fling 53 mile ultra marathon from Milngavie to Tyndrum on Saturday.

Anne Murray, Stuart Allison, John Fox Fiona McCue and Heather Calderwood-Orr all ran fantastic times along the West Highland Way, in what were almost ideal conditions.

Fastest harrier was John Fox who ran a strong race to finish in 9 hours 58 minutes and 18 seconds, followed by Heather Calderwood-Orr (11.02.49), Fiona McCue and Stuart Allison (both 11.15.25), and Anne Murray (11.33.12).

The previous Monday slightly further afield was the Boston Marathon which saw marathon runner, Tricia Stevenson, running despite an injury and finishing in a time of 4.43.50.

The weekend before was the Tom Scott Memorial 10 Mile Race which had Bobby Young finishing well in a time of 74.07 and first veteran over 70.

Also that day some of the younger members were being put through their paces in the Ayrshire Harriers Open Track and Field Meeting at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena.

In the track events Under 13 Aaron Belkevitz had an excellent run in the hurdles to win his race in 16 minutes. Under 15 Craig Hannan also had a good run in the 1,500m to finish in 5.39.3. Under 13 Jade Milne ran in the hurdles to finish in a time of 15.8. Under 11 Kenzie McIntosh ran in the 80m and 600m with times of 15.2 and 2.30.1 respectively. Under 15 Chloe Allan ran in the 100m to finish in 16.4. Iona Allan ran in the 1,500m to finish in 5.54.4. Under 17 Emily Paxton ran in the 200m and 300m to finish in first place (28.5) and second place (45.9) respectively. Rachel Campbell ran in the 300m to finish third in 48.9.
