Clydesdale Harrier runners Mark Barrow and Paul McKendry both competed in the London Marathon on Sunday.

Mark Barrow was doing the run for charity, so taking the marathon distance at a more leisurely pace but Paul had a good run to finish in a time of 3.40.39 in warm conditions.

The previous weekend there was no less than two marathons. The first was the Lochaber Marathon

which took place on an out-and-back course starting and finishing in Fort William. In appalling

conditions some excellent times were achieved. Fastest harrier was Pamela McCrossan finishing as third female and first veteran over 50 in a personal best time of 3.23.38. This was followed by Hugh Laverty (3.27.28), Bryan Powell (3.50.51), Christine Duncanson (3.57.53 pb), Stuart Allison (3.57.55), Evelyn McKee (4.06.37), Steven McKee (4.07.56 pb) and Colin Gray (4.50.16). Pamela, Christine and Evelyn also won second female team.

The other race that weekend was the Blackpool Marathon which had some excellent times considering the strong winds on the sea front. Fastest harrier was Kevin Farmer who finished in a personal best time of 2.57.29, followed by Paul Carroll (2.58.44), Robert O’Neill (3.05.52) and Brian Gallagher (3.08.07).
