Half marathon success for Clydesdale Harrier’s athlete

Last weekend was the Monklands Half Marathon where Clydesdale Harrier Pamela McCrossan had an excellent run to finish as first female, first West District runner and first West District Female Veteran in a time of 1hr 32mins over the hilly course.

The previous day was the Scottish Athletics Trail Championships at Falkland, Fife. The women ran first over the 10k hilly trail course.

Marina McCallum had a steady run to finish 38th out of 48 in a time of 50.38. In the men’s race Hugh Laverty had a strong run over a 15k course to finish in a time of 67.01.

Last Thursday was the Polaroid Eyewear Helensburgh 10k. This was the first in a series of four races. A total of eight runners took part.

Fastest harrier was Brian Gallagher (36.11), followed by James Austin (36.31), Kevin Farmer (36.38), Pamela McCrossan (40.02), Bobby Young (42.55), Stephen McKee (48.36), Colin Gray (50.05), and Evelyn McKee (50.47pb).

The second in the series takes place today Thursday (May 22) at Clydebank. The race starts at 7.30pm on the service road behind the Clyde Shopping Centre. Registration will be at the Playdrome.

If anyone wishes to help help out, turn up at the Playdrome and ask for Peter Rudzinski – marshalls are needed at the start and finish.

Finally in the Whangie Whizz hill race, Martin King put in a strong performance against some good quality hill runners to finish 46th in a time of 38mins 55secs.
