Parkland Squash team 1
Allander Squash 1st team 4
A full strength Allander had a convincing win when they travelled to Parklands Country Club.
Colin McGeady playing at no.1 and had little trouble in slamming his way to a straight 3-0 victory. Phil Graves at no.5 struggled to adapt to the poor light and slipped rather easily to a 2-0 deficit. He fought back convincingly to 2-2 and was ahead for much of the final game, only to lose vital points towards the end and losing the match.
Both Scott Hay at no.4 and Jez Bushell at no.3 had to fight hard to withstand early pressure and at 1-1 on both courts the evening was briefly in the balance.
In the end the Allander duo comfortably won both matches 3-1 as respective Parkland opponents wilted against superior accuracy.
Finally Chris McGeady finished off their no.2 with relative ease, dropping only 1 game to win 3-1 and leaving the Allander 1st team as overall victors.
Meanwhile the 2nds team had a home game against a student team from Glasgow University which finished with Allander winning 3-2.
Norrie Aitchison at position 5 won easily 3-0. Hamish McKay was on next, but he had a harder shift at position 4. Leading 2-0 and with several match points in the bag, he contrived to concede the initiative to his nimble opponent. But he held his nerve to win 3-0. Contrasting playing styles were on view between Gordon Todd and his opponent, playing at position 3. Gordon’s drop shots from deep proved too effective and he won 3-0. Stuart Petrie was making his team debut for the season and started well. But once his opponent got into his stride he went on to beat Stuart 3-1.
Gregory Dudziak playing in the top slot had a ding-dong battle, peppered with quality squash. Both players were drained after five games that unfortunately was won by the student.
