A group of Clydesdale Harriers competed in the recent West Districts Cross Country Championships, which this week took place in Linwood.
The course was flat but the conditions were atrocious with runners coming up against both wind and rain making it tough to run in.
The Under 13 Girls had one harrier running the 3,200m course. Jade Steele-Milne had a good run to finish in a time of 14.31. The Under 13 Boys had seven Harriers. Fastest Harrier was Robert Whittick (12.36), followed by Jack Dolan (13.42), Evan Currie (13.46), Cairn Wallace (13.54), Jake MacPherson (14.16), J.J. Herrick (14.47), and Lloyd Young (14.53).
The Under 15 Girls had 400m to run. Iona Allan had a good run to finish in a time of 19.27. Under 15 Boys had Stephen Kane running a time of 19.28.
Senior Women had Marina McCallum running 6,400m in a time of 31.50. The Senior Men had seven Harriers running. Fastest was Iain Robertson (42.00), followed by John Fox (42.48), David Brown (44.08), Bobby Young (49.53), Hugh Laverty (50.50), Pete Cartwright (52.30), and Peter Rudzinski (59.25).
Last month was the British and Irish International Masters Cross Country Championships which were held this year at Wallaton Park, Nottingham. First off were the Women and Men 65+. Unfortunately we had no women selected this year but we had three men. Fastest Harrier over the 6k course was Bobby Young (25.15), followed by Pete Cartwright (25.49), and Watson Jones (30.00). Bobby won the individual silver medal for 70+ age category and the three men were part of the silver team medallists for Scotland.
The next race was the Men’s 35-64 age categories race. Paul Carroll ran well to finish in a time of 28.49 for the 8k course.
