Garscube Harriers perform well in Hoka ultra marathon

There were a number of brilliant results from Garscube athletes competing in the Hoka Highland

Fling Ultramarathon, run over a distance of 53 miles which started in Milngavie Station Car Park at 6am on Saturday 25 April and finished in Tyndrum.

The first club runner home was William Robertson in the impressive time of 8hrs 26.27mins. Other runners times were Barry Queen in a new PB time of 8-45-15, Del Young (8-53-58), Robbie Drummond in a new PB time of (8-58-40), third woman to finish the race was Nicole Adams-Henry in a PB time of (8-59-37), Malcolm Sheppard in a PB time of (9-08-04), John McLaughlin (9-32-41), Scott Nicol (

10-19-45), Charles Gordon (11-48-01).

Meanwhile on Sunday, April 26, Garscube Athlete Garry Mathew finished a close second at the Balfron 10k in a time of (35-06), unfortunately due to a malfunction with the chip timing system the times for the other six Garscube runners were not recorded.

And it was a gold medal for Garscube Woman Lesley Chisholm at the Scottish 5k Championships held in Edinburgh on Wednesday evening, April 29. First club runner to finish equalling his PB time of 17-23mins in 82nd position was Rob McLennan. Other times; 108th John McManus (17-43), 109th, and winner of the Women’s Masters category Lesley Chisholm (17-44), 161st, John Murray (18-40), 163rd, Alex Chisholm (18-43). A total of 314 runners finished the race.

At the Victoria Junior parkrun on Sunday, May 3 Garscube Junior Fergus Currie finished in fourth position in a PB time of 8-23mins.
