Partick Thistle boss Ian McCall felt his side did enough to beat Falkirk

The goalless encounter was the second draw between the two potential title rivals this season. And, while it kept Falkirk at the head of the standings, Thistle dropped to fifth spot.

Thistle boss Ian McCall admitted he would have settled for a point after Zak Rudden’s red card just after the hour, but still felt his side did enough over the piece to merit a victory.

With half-time approaching, Thistle had their two best chances of the game and were unlucky not to go in at the break ahead.

Shea Gordon's shot come back off the crossbar and just a minute later Rudden hit the inside of the post.

Both sides had chances in the opening 15 minutes of the second half before the visitors found themselves down to 10 men when Rudden was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language.

As the windy conditions took their toll, neither side was able to make the vital breakthrough.

McCall said: “I was really, really pleased with how we played.

“But I think all the players on the pitch deserve great credit because I thought it was a good game. In these conditions it’s very, very hard to play.

“You can never say coming to the Falkirk Stadium it’s two points dropped but we felt we did enough to win the game.

“But going down to 10 men with 25 minutes to go, we take the point and move on.

“Falkirk are up at the top of the league for a reason. They’ve two young managers doing well and trying to make their way in the game, so they will be up there at the end as well.

“In the first nine games, we’ve had four penalties and missed three of them. We’ve hit the bar and the post and I’d like to think these things even themselves out over the season.”

This Saturday, Thistle play host to traditional derby rivals Clyde in their first game of 2021.
