Kingsley: 'Be careful out there'
Partick Thistle's players will be reaching for the sun cream after their season comes to an end with their final fixture at home to Hamilton on Saturday.
And as they gear up for a well-earned break they’ll be asked to heed the advice of their very own ray of sunshine, mascot Kingsley.
Kingsley and Jags teamed up with leading cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support to launch this year’s Sun Awareness Week (May 9-16).
The national awareness week aims to highlight the dangers of skin cancer, especially melanoma, the second most common cancer in people under 50.
‘Kingsley’ said: “People tend to see me about more often that the actual sun in the sky, so I thought I would do my bit and get people thinking about ways to stay safe when out and about.
“Like I say, the sun isn’t always out. I learned from Macmillan that you can still burn through the clouds, so it’s always best to wear sun cream and cover up, especially if you work outside.
“Melanoma isn’t the only type of skin cancer, but it is the second most common in people under 50. That’s why it’s good to know the signs to look for and hopefully stay protected.
“I might not be in California any more, but I know I’ll be topping up the sun cream from now on. Hopefully I’ll act as a friendly reminder when people see me to think about doing the same.”
Meanwhile Thistle will hope to send their fans off on the summer holidays in a sunshine mood by finishing with a flourish in their final home match of the season against Hamilton Accies on Saturday.
The Jags will hope to end on a high after disappointing defeats in their previous two post-split home matches against Dundee and Inverness Caley Thistle.
However Thistle bounced back with a 2-0 win at Kilmarnock on Saturday to banish any lingering relegation threat and only two late goals prevented another victory at Dundee United on Tuesday.
One player who will definitely be back after the summer is skipper Abdul Osman who has signed a new two-year contract.
Saturday’s game with Hamilton has an earlier kick-off time of 12.30pm.
