WORLD silver medalist Imogen Bankier and her badminton mixed doubles partner Chris Adcock won the Finnish Open title to remain in pole position to represent Britain at this Summer’s London Olympics.

Imogen (24) from Milngavie and her English partner had to work hard to cancel out Great British rivals for the only mixed double spot at the Olympics, Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork whose success last weekend at the Yonex Polish Open gave them some valuable ranking point.

In the Finnish city of Vantaa Imogen and Chris took on Denmark’s Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Sara Thygesen.

They came back from 7-1 down in the first game to hold game points at 20-21 and 22-21 but the new Danish national champions snatched the opener 24-22.

Imogen and Chris came back strongly in the second, pulling away steadily from 5-5 to take it 21-12 to level the match.

They were more their normal selves in the decider, moving clear from 7-7 before winning it 21-13 on their second match point after 51 minutes.

The Olympic hopefuls are now gearing up for the European Championships in Sweden, which start next weekend, before tackling the Indian Open - which is the final event in the year-long Olympic qualifying race.
