Endrick try-umphant

Cartha Queens Pk 3rd XV 5

Strathendrick 2nd XV 59

Reserve League West Pod A

ON a beautiful autumn afternoon in Pollok Park these two teams laid on an entertaining display of open rugby.

From the kick-off the ball came to stand-off Dougie Porteous who chipped over the defence, caught his own kick and off-loaded to Stuart Forsyth for the first try with only one minute on the clock. The conversion attempt was charged down however.

After 12 minutes Endrick centre Mick O’Connell, who gave a good demonstration of straight running throughout the game, broke the Cartha line and passed to Danny Lavelle for his first try.

Nine minutes later Dave McGuffie used similar direct running to bulldoze over for a try which he duly converted.

Eventually the Cartha backs showed what they are capable of with some slick handling right across the park for the winger to touch down in the corner.

After half an hour McGuffie repeated his barnstorming act to cross again and convert his own try.

To compound their woes a Cartha forward was yellow carded for dangerous play. This gave Strathendrick even more space, which Dougie Porteous duly exploited with a lovely outside break to the line. Again, the consistent McGuffie converted. At half time the away team were 31–5 up.

In the second period the game became a rather more scrappy affair and Fraser McKay was sin binned for killing the ball. There was no further score for 20 minutes when Danny Lavelle crossed for his second try of the afternoon.

Ten minutes later Cartha won a scrum on halfway but Endrick’s Forsyth, playing out of position at No 9, simply ripped the ball off his opposite number before sprinting 50 metres to the line. McGuffie converted.

The try fest continued with O’Connell and then Porteous helping himself to his second try of the game with McGuffie converting both to register seven kicks out of seven.
