Newlands 6th team 2

Allander 1st team 3

At 5, Gregory Dudziak rapidly discovered that he had not fully recovered from a hamstring injury sustained the previous week and, unable to rise to the challenge, lost 3-0.

Ian Turnbull at 4 was level at 1-1 but played too many loose balls which his opponent took full advantage of. Ian lost 3-1.

Next on at position 3 was Jez Bushell who produced a solid performance and was in control of the whole game, pushing his opponent to mistakes with him winning 3-0.

Scott Hay at 2 also played consistently and patiently and was never really threatened to continued his 17 game unbeaten run, winning 3-0.

In the top position Chris McGeady went two games up but slightly dropped the pace allowing his talented female opponent to stage a comeback and win the 3rd and 4th. Chris raised his game and convincingly won the final deciding set, to win 3-2 and secure the team’s overall win on the night.

Meanwhile Allander 2nd were at home to Newlands 8s. It was a tense 3-2 win for Allander with Hamish McKay at position 3 first on court. He comprehensively lost his season’s unbeaten run with a 3-0 defeat to a current youth international who remains undefeated.

John Millar at 4 had a much closer contest but still lost 3-0. Gordon Gray at 5 redressed the balance with a fine 3-1 win, leaving Allander needing to win the remaining two games which were playing on adjacent courts.

Gordon Todd in the top position was steadily getting the better of his opponent and won 3-0. Meanwhile Saj Chauhdry in position 2 had won the first two games but dropped the third. But his power play prevailed as he won 3-1 and secured victory on the night.
