Clydesdale football legend Andy Davidson dies

Andy, known as Jock to Tigers fans, made over 500 appearances for the club over 16 seasons, making him Hull’s all-time leading appearance maker.

This was all the more remarkable as Andy had broken his leg on three different occasions, an injury which in those days could be the end of a player’s career and one which took, at best, a long time to recover from.

Andy moved down to Hull from his home in Douglas Water as a 14-year-old after being persuaded by his older brother, who was already on the Tigers’ books, to try out for a career in professional football.

It was a move that began an association with the club that lasted for more than three decades.

A member of Clydesdale Sports Council’s Hall of Fame, one-club man Andy died on April 5. It was a fitting tribute to Andy that in the first game since his death, Hull defeated Sheffield United 5-3 at Wembley to reach the FA Cup Final for the first time in their history.
