City test the best

City made it two out of two as they finished off the weekend securing a win against Northern Irish cracks Glentoran Belfast United.

On Saturday, City’s women made short work of FC Union NoveZamky in a 5-0 route of the Slovakian champions.

On Monday, the Scottish champions took on the Northern Irish champions.

Although the game finished 1-0, this was due mainly to an impressive performance by the Glentoran keeper,
Ashleigh McKinnon, who pulled off some excellent saves.

However City were camped in the Irish side’s half and a goal could not be far away.

In the 41st minute what City had worked so hard for came off, thanks toCourtney Whyte.

A corner from Leanne Ross was only half cleared by the Glentoran defence and the ball landed at the feet of Whyte who steadied herself and guided the ball into the bottom corner.

In the second half, Ross limped off injured, but City rallied and the pattern and flow of the game was not disrupted.

Head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: “If you had asked me before the match would I have taken 1-0 the answer is most definitely.

“Overall, I am very happy after our first two matches and we now look forward to the group decisive match on Thursday.”
