Busy time for Clydesdale Harrier athletes

Three Clydesdale Harriers runners competed in the Neil McCover Memorial Half Marathon in Kirkintilloch. on Sunday.

Fastest Harrier was Paul Carroll finishing second overall in a swift 1hr 17mins 16secs over the hilly course. Pamela McCrossan put in her usual solid performance to finish as fourth female and first veteran over 45 in a time of 1.31.02, followed by Marina McCallum (1.36.30).

Also that day was the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon and 10k. In the half marathon fastest harrier was Robert O’Neill (1.20.39), followed by Dewar Stewart (1.39.57), Tom Collins (1.47.34), Stephen McKee (1.59.41), and Evelyn McKee (2.00.12). In the 10k fastest harrier was Alan Dick (40.49), followed by Brian Campbell (44.39).

The Great Scottish Run also had a junior run the day before the adult races. It was 3k in distance and six of our younger members took part. Fastest was Brian Aird (9.24), followed by Robert Whittock (9.50), Stephen Kane (11.00), Natasha Shaw (11.17), Stuart Aird (11.23), and Grant Sloan (14.52).

The previous weekend was the Aberfoyle 10k Trail Race which had Alan Dick running well over the undulating course in a time of 42.15.

Also that weekend was the Loch Ness Marathon and the River Ness 10k, both of which took place in and around Inverness. Four harriers ran the marathon and eleven ran the 10k. In the marathon fastest harrier was Stuart Allison finishing the hilly course in a time of 3h 17m 36s, followed by Hugh Laverty (3h 23m), Shirley Greig (3h 33m 53s pb), and Colin Gray (4h 32m 7s). In the 10k fastest harrier was Bryan Powell (41.44 pb), Alistair Greig (41.45), Martin King (42.20), Marina McCallum (42.25 and 3rd veteran over 40), Anne Murray (44.27), Fiona McCue (46.22), Christine Duncanson (47.05 and 4th veteran over 50), Stephen McKee (48.03 pb), Marie Rippon (52.48). Evelyn McKee and Tricia Stevenson decided to do a walk/jog challenge for the race and both finished in a time of 74.15.

Runners are asked to note that on the first Tuesday of every month the senior session will be meeting at Clydebank Business Park – the remaining Tuesdays meeting at St Peter the Apostle as normal – usual time.
