Beasden tennis doubles team of Gordon Wilson and Andrew Merry beat Lenzie’s David McBain and Stuart Wright in the Bearsden Lawn Tennis Club’s 37th Annual Invitation Tournament held in Jubilee Gardens.
The duo won through 6-3 in the final of the club’s championship which attracted 16 doubles teams from tennis clubs across the West of Scotland.
Gordon and Andrew had reached the final with a semi final win against Milngavie’s Roger McLean and Lorne Berkley by a ‘sudden death’ deciding point which had spectators on the edge of their seats.
The ladies’ doubles winners were Clarkston’s Lesley Taylor and Mary Gow who beat Katie Nicholson and Jenny Whitaker (Milngavie) 6-4.
Teams that lost their first round match played through to a consolation final with Bishopbriggs’ Men, Greg Marlow and Sean Gallagher winning through against Thorn Park’s Kennedy McCaig and Mark Johnston.
The ladies’ winners were Claire McGowan and Lesley Reeve (Craighelen) who beat Bearsden’s Pamela Crawford and Joanne Quirk.
The tennis was enjoyed by a large group of spectators in glorious sunshine. Councillor Manjinder Shergill attended the event during the afternoon.
Trophies were presented by Mrs Sylvia Ure who has had a long and valued association with the club both as a player, parent and as club secretary.
