Baljaffray FC Thistle U19s held its end of season awards recently at Bearsden Ski Club to recognise the players achievements.
Top goal scorer was Liam Fergusson and Players’ Player of the Year was Nico Mcleod. Player of the Year was David Ballingall and David Fraser. The event was sponsored by Bearsden Dental Care whose representatives Jackie O’Halloran and Graham Marshall also attended.
Baljaffray played in the Paisley & Johnstone District League Division three.
Manager Fred Musleh said: “We have had a great season and finishing second after being pipped to the title on the last day of the season by just one point.
“Our No. 7 Dave Fraser suffered a horror leg injury during a Scottish Cup Tie in September last year and no one expected the diagnosis of osteosarcoma that followed. His on-going battle has touches us all. He continues to meet it head on just as he has every challenge on the field and is a true hero and inspiration.”
And Mr Musleh contiued, “This season has been exciting and also heart breaking in equal measures, all the boys have displayed a tremendous team spirit and were unlucky not to be champions, however its not all about trophies - I am proud of their achievements - they all deserve this.”
And on the award of player of the year Musleh added, “I am so proud of Dave he fully deserves this award as he is committed on the park and has proven to be equally committed off the park, cheering the boys on from the side, while he courageously fought osteosarcoma. He has inspired all around him and is not only a wonderful footballer but also a truly wonderful young man.”
Looking ahead to next season David will be taking the next step up to assistant manager as the club move into the Under 21s section.
