Milngavie’s Imogen Bankier and her badminton partner Robert Blair defended their mixed doubles title at the Scottish Open Grand Prix.
The Commonwealth bronze medallists were competing at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena and overcame fourth seeds Niclas Nohr and Sara Thygesen 21-18 21-14 in 38 minutes.
Scotland’s top seeded duo, who had gone into the contest having won both their previous meetings with the Danes, won a tight first game before taking control in the second, helped by racing into a 5-0 lead after which they never looked back.
Bankier said: “The home support made all the difference. The home crowd really lifts us up and gave us that extra boost.”
However the pair will have no time to drink in their success. Blair said: “We have to fly off for a tournament in Asia.”
This was Blair’s fifth Scottish Open mixed title – he has also won the men’s doubles - and his third with Bankier, who claimed her fourth mixed title.
Blair said: “It is fantastic when you have a win like this and friends and family are able to watch you have some success in this Arena.”
Blair, Bankier and fellow Scot Kirsty Gilmour are competing in the big-money Axiata Cup in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.
The women’s singles titles was won by Japan.
