Alastair’s title joy

GARSCUBE HARRIER youngster Alastair Stanley won the Scottish National Indoor 3000 Metres Under 18 Men’s Championship at the Kelvin Hall in a time of 9mins 15.76secs on Saturday.

Norman Baillie was the fastest club member at the Kirkintilloch 12.5k race on Sunday, in 48th place with a time of 54mins 39secs.

Meanwhile six members competed in the Glasgow parkrun 5k race at Pollok Park. Stephen Wilson was first to finish in 80th place in 22mins 3secs.

Finally 34 members turned out for the club’s Cross Country Championships at Mugdock Country Park.

Ben Melby was a clear winner of the Men’s 6 Miles Championship in 40mins 24secs. Second was Dave Robertson 42mins and third was Alex Chalmers 43:25. Other times are: Gary Goldie – 43:51, John McLaughlin – 43:56, Danny Burns – 51:07, Stephen Alexander – 53:27, Kieran McLaughlin – 57:48, Chris Kilshaw – 59:05, Dave Heppell – 1:02:09, Raghbir Singh – 1:04:51. Three Garscube Harriers men turned out for the Renfrewshire AAA Open 5 Miles Road Race at Greenock.

Danny Burns was first home in 41st place in 31mins 56secs followed by John Molloy in 75th in 35:46 and Stuart Irvine 85th in 41:34. 87 men finished.

Garscube Harriers next fixture is the Scottish National Cross Country Championships at Callendar Park, Falkirk. Bus, sponsored by Scotwest Credit Union, leaves from the Garscube Sports Complex at 9am.
