A talented Milngavie Primary School pupil is this year’s winner of East Dunbartonshire Council’s annual Road Safety Calendar Competition.
Abbie Mitchell, a Primary 6 pupil, designed clever slogans to deter people from parking too near to the school gates which caught the imagination of the judges.
With an amazing 4,127 entries from 34 different schools across the area.
Abbie’s poster on the ‘Selfish parking in School Zones’ theme included the snappy lines “You will get in trouble if you park on a double” and Tongues will wag if you park on a zigzag” and was accompanied by images of brightly colours cars parked in dangerous locations.
It will now feature on thousands of calendars that will be distributed across East Dunbartonshire to remind people of the very important road safety message.
To commend her winning entry, Abbie and a number of other pupils whose drawings were chosen as the best in their age range were presented with their prizes at a special event Kilmardinny Arts Centre, Bearsden recently.
Depute leader of the Council and Convener of Neighbourhood Services, Ashay Ghai, said: “Every year I am amazed at the popularity of this competition, as well as the standard which goes up and up.
“Judging was extremely difficult, however, there can be only one winner and Abbie’s illustration won the day.
“I’d like to congratulate her and all the others winners this year; they did a brilliant job.”
Abbie received £70 and a trophy that will go on display at her school.
Prize winners in each category received cash prizes, a certificate and a pencil set.
