This year's duck race was in supermarket trolleys

The event, which is organised by the Rotary Club of Allander, was part of the newly revived Milngavie Week last Saturday.

Volunteers from Tesco helped out on the day and instead of putting them in the river they got about 12 children to race after the duck filled trolleys which were led by a bagpipe player down the path to the finishing bridge.

Each child then selected a duck to win - which was just as much of a lottery as sending them down the river to see which one travelled the fastest.

Hundreds of ducks took part, with the winners sponsored by Graham MacVoy (1st), Ian Miller ( 2nd) and Irvine Lumsden (3rd).

The duck race and other Rotary Club of Allander fundraising activities throughout Milngavie Week, it is anticipated that at least £2,000, will have been raised for charity.

Club President, Ian Mills said: “This is a fantastic achievement. We’re delighted to have been able to bring the duck race back, and to have been part of Milngavie Week.

“We’re grateful to everyone who sponsored a duck, or who has taken part in the quiz/raffle, and we’re very appreciative of the support we’ve had from local businesses. We’re looking forward to next year already!”
