Nominations are now open for the Gala Queen for Westerton’s annual Gala Day.

The event always starts with a parade through Westerton, led by the Gala Queen, her escort and six flower girls.

Nominations for Gala Queen and Queen’s Escort are open to girls and boys who will be in Primary 7 in September this year. Girls who will be in P1 to P5 in September can apply to be flower girls.

Forms to nominate can be picked up at Westerton Library, or downloaded from www.westertonvillage.org.uk. Completed forms must be in the Gala postbox in Westerton Community Hall by 5pm on Friday, June 6. Names are then picked out of a hat – one from each primary year – by staff at Westerton Nursery.

The Gala Day, which will take place on Saturday, September 6 this year, will have the XX Commonwealth Games as the theme.

Organisers are planning a host of sporting activities and challenges, and are looking for local sports clubs to get involved. Games, craft stalls, food and live music are also planned.

Organiser Gayle Brown said: “The chance to be the Gala Queen or a flower girl always causes a bit of excitement – and it would be great to have some boys coming forward to be the Queen’s escort this year.

“Over the last 10 years the Gala Day has had tremendous support from local community, and we hope that will be evident again this year.”
