It seems that the advert has also reminded pet owners not to leave their pets out when buying Christmas gifts this holiday season, as a surge in sales has been recorded, particularly on the specialist pet retailer’s website: www.petsathome.com.

The large dog stocking available at Pets at Home has seen a 350 per cent rise in sales compared to yesterday’s sales (November 9) and the Reindeer Harness and Antler set has seen a 322 per cent rise in sales over the same period. Dog toys also saw an uplift with sales of the Christmas Pudding Ball rising 130 per cent.

In addition, it’s not only the dog Christmas range which has seen a spike, sales of cat Christmas teasers, including the Candy Cane Holly Teaser have seen a 120 per cent rise in sales.

Scott Jefferson, marketing director at Pets at Home, said: “While we’re not sure we would ever sell a trampoline for dogs, we have seen a huge surge in people searching for fun gifts following the launch of the Buster the Boxer advert this morning.

“We have a huge variety of Christmas gifts for all pets and we hope that if anything, the John Lewis advert has encouraged owners to treat their pets this holiday season, after all, they are part of the family.”
