After days of summer sunshine in Glasgow the Met Office has warned of thundery showers and heavy downpours today.

Temperatures were higher in Glasgow than holiday hotspot Ibiza yesterday at 26C - but unfortunately it’s not going to last.

Scots will need to trade their sunscreen for umbrellas today after the Met Office issued a yellow “be aware” weather warning.

Forecasters have warned of heavy showers across the central belt with torrential thundery rain expected in some areas between 2pm and 9pm.

Up to two inches of rain may fall in the area in just a few hours.

But temperatures are set to remain high, with Glasgow reaching 25C.

The Met Office’s Alex Burkill said: “Temperatures are not quite as warm on Tuesday.

“There’s a weather warning for central and southern parts of Scotland from 2pm to 9pm.

“It’s heavy showers, which might bring torrential downpours and could lead to surface water on flooding.

“We could see 20mm in an hour and perhaps 50mm in just a few hours.

“There could be heavy, thundery showers as well - quite widespread and more frequent than those yesterday - which are more likely to cause some issues.”

The weather is also supposed to be unsettled later in the week and over the weekend.

Alex added: “For the rest of June, things look like you would expect for this time of year, with some drier weather but also some showers.”
