Join Empowered on Friday, March 6, to help mark International Women’s Day at a special event in Bishopbriggs.
International Women’s Day is held annually and Empowered are celebrating this year by hosting an event at Woodhill Evangelical Church between 9am and 1pm.
There will be a whole host of exciting and engaging activities and talks taking place to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history.
The event is open to all to attend and its aim is to provide a fun and informative day out. A number of information stalls will be available to browse while you can also relax with some taster massage and yoga sessions.
Empowered - East Dunbartonshire’s Violence against Women Partnership - brings together a number of key agencies with a wide range of knowledge and expertise and organisations involved in the partnership will also be on hand to provide information on services such as Women’s Aid, Rape Crisis, and East Dunbartonshire Association for Mental Health (EDAMH).
This year’s theme is ‘Make it Happen’ and amongst the speakers on the day will include representatives from Women 50:50, Rape Crisis and Women’s Aid.
East Dunbartonshire Council supports the Empowered partnership as part of its wider equalities agenda and Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: ‘‘All around the world, International Women’s Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality.
“This year’s event aims to inspire women and encourage effective action for advancing and recognising women. Empowered does great work providing support services and raising awareness of gender issues in the community.
“This is the first year that Woodhill Evangelical Church has hosted the event and I would encourage people to come along to sample the treatments that will be on offer during the day and to find out information on the services available.’’
