Entries are filling up fast for the popular annual Balfron Mulberry Bush Montessori 10k which is being held later this month.

A record number of runners have already signed up for the challenging race on Sunday, April 27 at 11am.

The 10k, consistently voted the number one 10k in Scotland by the readers of a national running magazine, is now in its eighth year and raises funds for schools in the West Stirlingshire village and this year will also aid Cancer Research UK.

Attracting more than 600 entrants from all over Scotland and beyond, the event is a real community affair with locals not only running in it but also helping with organisation, marshalling, photography and cheering competitors.

Race director Colin Mendham said: “With the sporting spotlight this summer very much on Glasgow as it hosts the Commonwealth or ‘friendly’ Games, it is fantastic to be able to host our very own friendly 10k where runners are guaranteed to have a great day out.’’

The race, which starts at Balfron Campus, follows a scenic out and back route.

A chip timing device ensures a quick and accurate result for runners.

In addition to the Balfron 10k there are local school races on the day, including the Balfron 4k - open to Balfron High School pupils.
