When the judges visited they were so impressed by the enthusiasm displayed by the local people of all ages they also awarded Flourishing Forth a discretionary Community Involvement Award.

“We were quite surprised,” said Ann Anderson, of the Forth and District Initiative Group. “We did not really expect it.”

The group has run the eco centre in Forth successfully for years, teaching children about growing things, and raising their own plants to fill hanging baskets and tubs to brighten up the village.

But the eco site was at the old Forth Primary School, and had to be demolished to make way for the new primary building.

The group has a new eco site, off Hailstonegreen, but progress has been slow.

“We have had to put in drains and things like that,” said Ann, although the polytunnel for growing under cover is now up.
