Traffic disruption in Milngavie

Clober Road in Milngavie is currently closed due to work being carried out by Scottish Gas Networks (SGN).

As part of a £750,000 investment to upgrade 6km of their gas network, SGN is currently carrying out work in the Craigdhu Road, Park Road, and the Clober Road area of Milngavie.

This involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

Claire Buchanan, a spokesperson for gas network company SGN, said: “Our work in Craigdhu Road/Park Road has been progressing well.

“We reinstated the road surface in Craigdhu Road and moved into Park Road on Monday (July 11).

“All being well, we anticipate that our work in Park Road will be completed in approximately three weeks.”

Temporary traffic lights are in place to safely control the flow of traffic past their work area.

The temporary lights are manned, between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday, to assist the flow of traffic as much as possible. They also have temporary pedestrian crossings in place.

SGN is also working in the Clober Road area, and anticipate this work will be completed in early October.

Claire Buchanan added: “We are working seven days a week to complete our work as quickly as possible.

“We’re mindful of residents living in the area and will try to minimise noisy activities where possible.

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating and would like to thank road users and residents for their continued patience while we complete our essential work.”

SGN’s website explains that the plastic pipes are more flexible and robust and if left undisturbed will last for decades, ensuring a continued safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

It also says that while work is taking place in your area, members of the public are welcome to speak to engineers on site.

They will be happy to try to address any concerns or requirements that people may have about their work.

All authorised SGN employees and contractors carry an identity card displaying the company name, their own name and a colour photograph of the individual.
