Several readers have contacted the Herald to complain about the holes on Union Street, in Kirkintilloch.

The road is being used by shoppers driving to the Regent Centre car park due to the road closure on nearby Cowgate for East Dunbartonshire Council’s unpopular ‘shared space’ scheme.

“Something really needs to be done.”

And another reader added: “There were holes there in November and the council filled them but now they are worse than ever.

“I’m an angry, car owning, senior citizen who tries not to go that way now to get about town.”

She estimated that double the number of cars were using the road than usual.
