Thugs tried to rob cyclist

Police are appealing for witnesses after two thugs tried to rob a cyclist in Eglinton Street on Thursday.

The 25-year-old was cycling along Eglinton Street at around 6.40pm on Thursday when he was stopped by two men who threatened him and demanded he hand over his bike.

The robbery was foiled by a passing motorist who stopped to assist, and the men ran off in the direction of Bedford Street.

The first man is described as late 20s, 5ft 10ins, and thin.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans and a black hat.

The second man is mid 20s, 5ft 8ins and medium build.

Detective Sergeant Peter Sharp said: “Luckily the victim wasn’t injured during this incident but he has been left badly shaken by what happened.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
