Hard-hearted thieves are raiding charity shops on a regular basis, depriving them of vital funds.
Staff at the Cancer Research shop in Milngavie Main Street say it is targeted on an almost weekly basis, and that it is not alone, with charity shops seen as ‘easy targets’, both for thieves and for con artists who swap labels to get items even cheaper.
Now they hope raising awareness of the issue will deter the thieves, and that the people of Milngavie and Bearsden will rally to support the shop to try to bring its charitable takings back up again.
Manager Carolyn Shennan also hopes that more CCTV cameras in the town centre can be introduced to try to catch those responsible for the thefts.
Police have been made aware of the issue.
