The Big Lottery Fund pitches in with cash boost for local clubs

Almost £4,000 was handed out by The Big Lottery Fund to sporting groups in Milngavie and the surrounding area.

Milngavie Badminton Club was given £2,000 to help the club in its continued drive to encourage school children in East Dunbartonshire to take up the sport.

Some of the funding will also be used to provide after school badminton sessions.

Meanwhike, Balmore Golf Club was awarded funding of £1,937.

The club will use the money to train volunteers as Level 1 golf coaches who will then work in partnership with the Active Schools Co-ordinators in East Dunbartonshire. The 2014 Big Lottery Fund project was set up to introduce people to a wide range of activities and healthier lifestyles in the run up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The fund’s chairman, Maureen McGinn, said: “The 2014 Communities programme allows people across the country to explore their potential through a wide range of physical activity, helping create a legacy for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

“The common factor in all of the 103 projects we are funding today is the way they will help greater well-being across Scotland in the lead up to the Games.”
