KILMARDINNY House Arts Centre in Bearsden is going to be closed from April 15 until May 27 to allow ongoing works to be finished.
Electrical installation work, which has been carried out within the building during the past year to bring it up to a standard to meet regulations, are now near completion on the first floor.
However, restricted access to the ground floor has made it impossible to complete the improvements without the temporary closure of the centre.
While this is being finalised, work to bring the building up to current fire standards will also be carried out on areas which were identified during a recent fire safety risk assessment.
Chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust, Councillor Stewart MacDonald, said: “Kilmardinny House is an extremely popular venue and every effort has been made to ensure that the temporary closure is for as short a period as possible.
“The good news is that when all the works are complete, the building will be fully operational and compliant with all the necessary regulations.”
In addition, the council is presently in discussions with Historic Scotland about designs for the installation of a new ramped access to the main entrance of the building and it is anticipated that this will take place at a later date without the need to close the building.
ART’S ALL FOR NOW . . . popular Kilmardinny House will shut temporarily.
